This is one of the six original cannons that were used to protect Fogo Harbour from French attack in the 1760's. Two of the cannons remain at the entrance to the harbour; it amazes me that after 250 years any of them are still around! The community of Tilting also still has their original cannon, which I stumbled upon two days ago while exploring. Another of the six original cannons from Fogo stands guard outside the Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment.
The second image was captured from high atop a hill overlooking the community of Barr'd Islands. Had I waited one more day to take this shot, there would have been an enormous iceberg in the background, the first one of the season! If the nice weather holds tomorrow, I will go back to this same spot and retake it with the iceberg.
Both photographs were taken hand-held with my Sony Alpha, and vintage Minolta Maxxum lenses (50mm prime, and 75-300mm zoom)
