Cool! Looks like sandstone, which often has fossils in it. Did this slab of shattered stone?

It looked to me like there was a mini-landslide where a small cliff broke off from a hillside, bouncing rock into the bent trees, some of which snapped off and/or were uprooted. There was a lot of debris farther down the slope, the bottom of which is a creek. Winter damage caused perhaps by water getting into cracks and expanding and contracting with temperature changes.
