I think the solarization works. I'm not sure if I like the coloring yet. Sometimes I have to wait and let it grow on me. At first glance, I didn't care for it, then I realized it wasn't the colors. It was the out of focus plant on the right hand side. It was drawing my attention, and didn't satisfy. Did it work in the original color image? Once I blocked that out, the rest of the image worked much better for me.
Here is the original version for comparison...I chose the solarization b/c I think it brings out the 2 stems in the front...in this version I think they blend in too much with the background.

Yes, I see what you mean. Seeing the original also pointed out your border treatment. That's very effective.
I find the border and treatment very distracting on this one casil...
I might be wrong but it seems like you were going for a 'save' here given the harsh light...
