Default Lightroom preset to the rescue?

So...I was scouting a location for a meetup my local crew and I are having tomorrow, just giving them an idea of what's there, checking trail conditions etc. It was sunny and when it's sunny it's really hard to photograph forest streams. Despite this shot being underexposed and therefore noisy, I liked the structure of the falls enough to experiment with it. In some ways it's a success - that the messy nature of the photo accentuates the messy nature of the falls (it had just rained heavily for a few days and there was a lot more debris in the falls than usual). But I also think this is a bit gimmicky. Maybe. I am trying my hand at finding a 'style' when it comes to out of the bounds of reality post processing, which means trying bunches of stuff. I tried other monochromatic variations, but the coldtone seemed to work best given the subject matter.

So does this work? Not just as a representation of the falls, but as a photo...I'm kinda torn.

Other's opinions might differ but for me I can't seem to get it out of my head.

Yah, I know...that's kinda what I mean, it's too open to interpretation. Maybe I could sell it to Scope or Listerine. : )

The color just didn't work to my eye. Maybe a different shade? Or maybe some shading to the dirt, to balance it? I do like the structure, though; you're right there. That part works.
