One of the swamp areas in the Oak Openings region after the water has frozen over the fallen leaves. It is one of those things we often overlook when realizing the importance of the seasons. While these leaves remain under the ice, they will slowly decay and form some the best soil known to man. In "educated" society, we often remove them from our yards, doing ourselves a huge disservice. Here, the leaves will be used to their full potential, and feed the same trees they fell from. If anyone needs any ideas about sustainability, look at the forests around you. The trees survive for hundreds of years by essentially feeding themselves. As the leaves fall, they are broken down and the nutrients from them, are then used by the its respective tree, to continue flourishing for decades to come. Seems like a great idea to me.
