It's so strange seeing all you photographers dreading winter. Having such a change of seasons appears to be a godsend to me. Every location becomes new again with the snow. Every tree becomes a decoration.
I do realise that it's frikkin cold, messy, and after many years suffering through long winters ignorant statements like mine above are laughable too I'd like to live somewhere that gets a few days of snow a year but I can drive within an hour or so to a location that gets loads. But of course I want tropical beaches within reach too. A perfect world.
Nice christmas tree crystalb
In all seriousness, I don't actually mind the cold part of winter all that much, I miss the sun. It is rare to actually see sun here during the winter, it's usually grey and dreary. If the sun is out, it is most likely too damn cold to be outside. (the blanket of grey keeps us a little warmer).
Currently the sunrise is just before 8am and sunset is about 5:30pm. It the middle of winter our shortest day would be sunrise at about 9:30am and sunset close to 4pm.
It just makes me appreciate summer more.......
Nice angle on the tree!
We get sun more days than anything in the winter here. Sun and cold. They seem to go hand in hand. I LOVE winter when it first starts. Yesterday I was shooting..it was warm enough to go without gloves while I was shooting, just enough cold to feel it on your face (of course I was dressed in snow gear so I can sit/lay on the ground). There is a silence you don't get in the summer. Just you and silence. I love that. So yup! I get an enjoyment out of it..but it's short lived..ha ha.
I like snow on Christmas day ..... ONLY - jimmy

Of course wanting summer back is strange to me also. Summer to me means about 6 months of searing heat and humidity, gallons of sunblock, and retina piercing light. We beg for days under 30 deg C but have to put up with 32 - 42 deg C instead.
I'd gladly have my winter all year round. 20 - 25 deg C is very nice thanks
oh MA! where I live there's just a few weeks of the year where it goes over 30 deg C!!! I know in other parts of Canada it's different. So for me, balmy summer weather in which I don't need to wear a jacket and can sit outside and read a book is heaven. Likely you can't do that there in the summer. I think that we need enough money and freedom to be able to follow our perfect weather!

Where I am, if it is a good summer there MAY be 2 or 3 days for weather 29-30 deg C the rest of the days are between 15-25 deg C. Saying that, it is not uncommon for it to snow in May!
Ha ha..with you there crystalb. The May long weekend has always been cursed with snow here... I sure miss my Okanagan. Hope to get back there again soon!
