Default The Most Beautiful Stretch of the Appalacian Trail

We took off for a short getaway with family at Roan Mountain last week. These highlands are unique in the Appalachians as they consist of about 10 miles of balds. Roan is also famous for the huge Catawba Rhododendron garden, although we missed the bloom for that by a week or so as they only peaked for about a day due to high temperatures. It's still an awesome area to visit though, we went back in December for a few days but never got to see the views because the clouds were too low, this time though we did get one day were conditions were perfect.

There's something about chasing the white blaze to see what the next beholds.

Just think how unfair the tree world is. There are trees who spend their lives stuck in the middle of the sidewalk in a city, and then you have this guy here.

Found the perfect turn around point to enjoy some cold fermented apple cider, summer sausage with cheese and a nice show.

Was my favorite as well. Made the hike back down the mountain in the dark way worth it!
