Nice handling of a tough lighting challenge Jim.

    Lovely Jim.
Even better would be to crop a little from either right or left side to de-centre the sun. Just my 2 cents is all.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

neat image - was there enough haze to look at what you were doing? or was it a situation of pointing in the right direction and take some shots without looking? I had to do that on a recent sunrise with some pleasant results....without looking I got a goose silhouette as well as a huge active region of sunspots that I didn't even know about until post processing.

Thank you Randitola. It was pretty much a straight, point in the right direction shot. Using Photoshop CS-4, I did push up the kelvin slider a lot to get the different colour at the sun's circumference. DSLR's are incredable, in "film" days one would have had to play with serious ND filters use a tripod, and I don't think the tree part would have shown up.
