Default Another Season of Ice Racing

Finally warmed up around here just in time for an early start to the ice racing season. Pretty dark and gloomy out there so it was hard to pick up much detail in the snow. With all the snow we have had as well its also tricky trying to get a clear shot of the cars with no snow banks in the way.....the viewers are kept quite a distance from the actual races. Heres a couple anyway.

Hey thanks for the comments guys.
It really was warm out there RM, about -2C. A week ago its -39C to start the day. If I get a better day with some sun next weekend I'll try and get an overall of the track out there.

Looks like a lot of fun. Some nice cornering action captured Aub.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

It is cool watching the ice racing. It just amazing me how fast they can go on the ice. I love watching the snow flying as they drift around the corners, so I think my preference is the third one. Is this the closest they will allow you to get (or you have the nerve to get). I took some pics of the ice racing in Minden last year and I was able to get up on the snow bank on the edge of the track (see link). That way I was able to get some closer shots.

Hey asnow. I sure would like to get out there a bit closer but these guys have a security guard that keeps everybody back. I'll try and get an overall this weekend if I go out. The only location to see and shoot decent action is the one in these picks and it is probaly 150 feet away. There are 2 other access roads ploughed in the snow closer to the camera in between the viewers and the racers in the pics. Turns out though that a buddy I brought with me last time knows somebody involved and he is trying to get me (us) some closer access.

This is a shot of the same corner last year at 70mm. You can see one of the officials in the bottom of the pic

After the above corner they head down a short straight away here (shot at 80mm) and you can see the fence and one of 2 access roads between the viewers and the track. That van above is on one of these. Viewers have to stay behind the fence. There is really only the one corner to get any kind of an action shot and with the high snow banks this year the have narrowed that up quite a bit as well. Keeping my fingers crossed my friend can get us out on the track!

Hopefully your buddy can come through and get you closer. If so I definitely want to see those pics.
