I find that this scene (aside from the lovely flower) as a whole is dark for me. Might actually work better in BW because of this.

Oh, its dark alright. I can't help it, I'm just not satisfied until they are a little darker than most would prefer. Centered weighted off the flower and -1EV makes it easy for me to knock the background down with levels and/or curves. Underexposed gives me the saturation I like most in camera.
Nicely done, Barefoot. I tend to do the same thing with many of my flower shots-- underexposing the background and then taking it down a notch or two from there to just about black it out.
