Photographic Impressionism revisited

It's been so busy lately, I've gone a few months without being able to do much photography. Even my holidays were disappointing. We were camping at Killbear Provincial Park - gorgeous Canadian Shield rock with pine trees cascading down into Georgian Bay. All I was hoping for was some dramatic cloud formations to get some 'Group of Seven' type images, but would you believe it? Every single day, nothing but cloudless boring blue sky. Oh well, maybe next year.

Anyway, here are a few recent images captured using camera movement during the exposure. All shot with a Canon XT camera, 50mm lens, and three stacked neutral density filters to increase the exposure times.

Interesting set Doug. I too am liking the second one with the strong colours and the fact that it is more obvious to me what the subject is.

If you wanted to, the other 2 could make for really interesting backgrounds for other photos (by this I don't mean to question their the merit as standalone images)

I like the 2nd and 3rd. For the 3rd you could increase the contrast and color saturation and see if you like the result.

Totally understand your preference. With more drastically 'smeared' images, the results are more abstract and the emphasis is more about the play of light, shadow and colour, and less about subject matter.

Thanks for the suggestion. I always shoot in RAW with no in-camera processing and have already played with the contrast and saturation, but I think you're right. The image might need a bit more punch to it. As an aside, my inspiration for this shot was Monet's 'Reflections of Clouds in a Lilly Pond'.

I gotta admit, I know nothing about this type of photography, but that second one is amazing! The depth is unreal!!
