    Default Robe

Have just had a few days away in the South East of South Australia. The weather was terrible (with 100+ kmh winds), but it did result in some cool skies. This shot is from a lobster fishing town called Robe.

These are nice compositions with very interesting dynamic sky. I prefer the color version, since the subtle color differences in the land, sea and sky are important elements, I think.

Cool images, Though I am usually partial to black and white, I like the drama in the colour one better ...

Thanks guys. Looks like colour is the winner. I thought so too, but I am going through a bit of a B & W phase at the moment

It's a very nice shot and I love the light streaming through the clouds. I too give the nod to the colour version but possibly for a very different reason. I'm at work so my monitor isn't as good but it looks like the image is a little underexposed and there seems to be a fair bit of noise that I don't notice as much in the colour version. I'm partial to colour in general so I prefer the colour one but I think the black and white could look much more dramatic with the right adjustments.

oh I really like the drama here - Lovely comp!

Not sure if it's just me, but the BW looks sharper than the colour version and if if comparing head to head my eye is appreciating that sharpness over the softer colour version...

    Thank you Iggy & Marko.

Both of your comments I think relate to the same issue. Yes I did use a slightly underexposed version to try to bring out the detail in the brighter part of the sky, which I think has contributed the the noise. I cant remember my workflow on this this one, but I didnt save a master copy of B & W version. I think I first "saved for web" the colour version and then the B & W version. I then looked at the colour one and noticed there was way too much noise so went back and tried to eliminate some of it in Photoshop and in doing so softened it too much. I think that would explain the difference between the 2. Maybe also the processing in Silver Efex Pro contributed tot he sharpness and noise? (I have only just started using this)

Love this scene that you have captured so well, but will have to go with the sharp detail, and tones in the b&w version for my taste.
