I've been wanting to photograph these types of lichens for a while now, but haven't done so yet. This comes pretty close to what I want, but the light is still somewhat flat. I looked for some with more red on them, but none were to be found.
In the fg is British Soldier Lichen and in the bg is Pixie Cup Lichen. The BSL is maybe 1/2 high for the most part and the PCL 3/4 of an inch. Really tiny, and so fragile looking. This little arrangement put me in mind of celebrants entering a temple like Stonehenge or something. I love the tiny moss spore pod that's tagging along - it was invisible to the eye.
Shot with the standby Olympus 90mm f2 macro with the camera on a bag of barley I use for a lot of ground shots. Probably f8 or so.
