hm. interesting. I get a feeling of spaciousness and freedom, but also chains shackling me to the earth.

Hey thanks Wicked and Jacqueline. Wicked, you may be inside the matrix. You must free your mind . . . . just kidding. I can see how this picture would make you feel that - jimmy

Hi, Jimmy! I love the dreamlike feel of this image as well as the minimalist approach you applied on this one. How did you come up with this effect? Thanks for sharing!

Hi John. Thanks so much for your nice comments. I cropped a small section, say 1/4 of the full frame area, of a slightly overexposed raw file. This gives me a light washed out photo with that grainy look as my background layer in Photoshop CS 5. Photos with large areas of white or light colours work best for adding textures like I did here. Most of the textures I use are FREE from SkeletalMess and Playingwithbrushes on Flickr. Once I add my texture layer I go to the filters in NIK Color Efex Pro ( they load in Photoshop under FILTERS) and just start experimenting. I set the capacity slider to 50% to start and see what effect each filter adds to the photo. I mostly use the MULTIPLY filter, sometimes SOFT LIGHT, sometimes Hard light but my favorite is the POLAROID filter. The Polaroid filter adds a green vintage tone and also gives you sliders to create the jagged borders I use on many of my pics. NIK software has 30 day free trials so you can experiment with these wonderful plugins. Silner Efex Pro is also a wonderful set of plugins for black and white work. Sorry, I cannot tell you the exact steps and filters I used. I did not record them. I do fast fun edits, finishing most photos in about ten minutes. Hope this helps you John. Check out the FREE textures if you have a chance - jimmy

Thanks for the run down, Jimmy. I truly appreciate it. You don't have to worry about the exact steps and filters, you already provided a wealth of information. By the way, I've also checked your portfolio in red bubble, and man, all your works are really great. I'm amazed actually.

Gee thanks so much Matt. I appreciate all your nice comments. I really cannot figure out how you find the time to make comments! I belong to so many photo sites I am exhausted and never seem to have the energy to do so !
