Default Purgatory Brook and an old friend

Here's another view of the brook further upstream. It splits just above here and gets a bit messy. There is a ton of mountain laurel and I finally found a composition that worked with it included.

And not far from the falls is another of our ubiquitous stone walls. There are tens of thousands of miles of these in New England. It's so constant that you hardly notice them. But I've never been successful photographing them. Then I saw this -

It could hardly have been better in terms of presentation (downhill then uphill), lighting, lack of leafed-out bushes and trees, and color contrast. Finally I'm close to showing these old friends the way I see them.

Very cool. What are these old stone walls from?

These photos look very yellowish on my monitor which was calibrated a few days ago. Is my calibration off? Or was the day very yellow in hue?

really? weird. it was a bit yellowish due to clouds, but not like there was smoke in the air or anything.
the walls are just the result of the effort to clear the land for farming. they weren't parts of buildings or anything. The Pleistocene glaciers kicked up the earth and left huge granite deposits near the surface. they also occasionally dropped enormous boulders the size of houses and even larger, called glacier erratics. the topsoil here and in eastern Canada is extremely rocky.

Another vote for #2. Love the perspective.

thanks guys. I've tried for years to get a decent stonewall picture, but they've always sucked. This one I like though.

thanks again. I had no idea people would relate to the stonewall picture so much. It seems such a northeastern thing.
