In one of the very shallow channels next to the river.
This is a discussion on I probably just don't want to know within the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) forums, part of the Photography & Fine art photography category; In one of the very shallow channels next to the river....

I didn't think it was that disgusting. And I think it's iron bacteria, though the pictures I've found elsewhere didn't have this much texture.
It is pretty gross looking!
I like the comp and texture here.

"You have to milk the cow quite a lot, and get plenty of milk to get a little cheese." Henri Cartier-Bresson from The Decisive Moment.
The texture is what attracted me. The references I glanced through also explained what looks like an oily sheen often found near by. It's the same (I think) bacteria, and you tell the difference between it and actual oil by poking it with a stick. If it stays broken it's bacteria. The ducks just dive through this stuff and don't seem bothered by it. The things I learn by asking, "What isthat?"
