Thanks Donna. I liked the reflection of the tree in the water. I would have preferred to not have the bottom part cut off by the ice, however I was concerned about getting any closer to the water as I was out there all by myself.

Better safe than sorry! ... Yes the tree reflection in the water is beautiful with the layers of ice and snow and I really like the old buildings in the back ground

A very nice set indeed. #3 is my favourite as well. I wonder what it would have looked like if you panned a little to the right placing the tree a little off centre and showing a little more of those interesting buildings. I actually like having the reflection cut off by the ice as it adds an interesting foreground element.

Lastly, glad to hear that you are being safe while getting your images. We crazy photographers can put ourselves in crazy positions to get the shot but I always hope we're all being safe about it!

Thanks Iggy. Here's the same picture taken in landscape. Perhaps it is better this way. Also it is interesting that both you and Donna like the buildings in the background. I rermember that I didn't like the buildings there when I took the picture.

I like that one a lot more. Very nice. I agree that buildings are usually excluded in a landscape type shot but I think since they're all covered in snow they kinda look like a cozy little home tucked in the woods which kind of works. Without the snow they would probably be an ugly distraction.

With the larger image the river leads your eye through the picture to the "cozy chalet" and then the big tree and then out the left side. Nice!

Looks great in landscape! .. Really like the curve of the river .
Funny how we view buildings in landscapes sometimes ... There is a river that flows out of the lake , that I cross every time I go to town . I thought the cabins aong it were an eyesore .... Until one day my mom sent me a photo that she took of them with a nice reflection and a bright blue sky... I thought her photo was just beautiful ... Yeah , I still see them as an eyesore when I'm trying to keep them out of my Swan shots ... But I have since photographed them as old buildings in landscapes and liked them .... But it was my Mom that opened up my eyes so that I could see them in a different light .

Thanks Iggy and Donna. I guess that's all part of the learning process, knowing what you should include/not include in your pictures and when.
