Is this normal for them grow in the water like this? Is it a lily of some sort?
It's an aquatic iris. They're both ornamentals in water gardens and a noxious weed in a lot of states. They grow profusely wherever there is shallow water and mud. They're great subjects because the yellow contrasts so nicely with the vibrant green leaves. Get a nice sunny day and you can have endless hours of fun finding angles for the light to shine through and around the petals and leaves.
Cool. Would make a great shot if you could down low enough to have it with both water and sky behind then.
In this case, it would have been water and apartment buildings. It was growing in the pond.
