    Default Low-light performance and noise

Low light performance is the #1 focus of camera manufacturers lately, but I don't think many photographers understand some of the issues. Here are a few questions, the answers to which may make for a very informative podcast.

What is expanded ISO range and how does it differ from the traditional ISOs?

Does a hot camera (perhaps using live view for a long time) increase the noise levels on images?

Are low ISOs going to become more of a reality with the advent of video? (Video cameras often need neutral density filters to accomplish the needed slow shutter speeds that video mandates).

Longer exposure with lower ISO, or higher ISO and shorter exposure? For example, will a photo have less noise at 30sec shutter and ISO 100, or will there be less noise with a 15sec shutter at ISO200? This is a VERY important question for night photographers to understand, and I see people mess it up all the time.

People often talk about which cameras have the most pleasing noise patterns. What makes a noise pattern less ugly?

Anyway, there are lots of interesting questions you could address. I've recently studied all of these questions to improve my knowledge of the subject and it's really made a big difference in my low-light photography.

    Love the show!

Many thanks for the compliment IP!

This is a fantastic idea and would indeed be helpful to many - it's on the short list.

    Thx!
