Default September 2012 Photography assignment - Circles

    Hi members -

It's September 2 and no assignment ideas yet.

Who has level 1 and level 2 ideas?

    Thx!
    Marko

Maybe for level 2 we could investigate the "black card technique" I'm getting ready to give it a try and it would be interesting to compare notes with others to gain some understanding of method. It's kind of dodging a shot on the fly and looks promising for landscape photography where high contrast (in sunsets especially) has to be effectively handled to render a properly exposed image. Normally we would shoot HDR or mess around in post to achieve this but the black car technique gives us another more natural method. I have still yet to try it though.

This seems like in camera dodging which is very cool. I found a flickr group on it Hanjié's Blog: Black card photography Part I and another link. Hanjié's Blog: Black card photography Part I

For regular assignment, here are a few ideas:
    - the mouth
    - red

Level one idea ..how about Circles?

I like circles for level one!

For level 2 - how about black on black or Low key subjects

I just saw this and it looks like fun!

There's no consencus so I'm going to make the call.

    Regular assignment - Circles
Level 2 assignment - Mirror self portraits

    merging suggestion posts now.
    Thx - marko

Well [I] guess [I] might start first...I realize this fall outside the parameters of theassignment guidelines; that is I took it in May, however I did not process it until now thinking it would be perfect for the assignment...I hope that is ok with me bending the rules a little...

While the purpose of the assignment is to encourage everyone to get out and shoot we also don't mind bending the rules from time to time. Nice addition, casil.

Took this early this week thinking Black on Black would be for level 2 and I thought I could 'shoot' two birds with one stone.

Very interesting, Ed. I like the way it's lit with rim lights defining the shapes.

Nice start so far Casil & Ed.

I think this is a great assignment. The more you think about about it the more ideas just keep rolling in. Here is my first one.

Cool shots so far. Inspired me to find some circles.

I converted it to monochrome to emphasise the circles.
