I'm not going anywhere near that conversation!
In regards to the photograph, I prefer the second one. Of course, I may be biased as I prefer colour. In the first one you can see a very dark shadow on her face which in the second one you can easily see is rouge. Also, her left arm seems better lit in the second one. There is a "hot spot" in the very bottom of the centre of the frame in the second one though, that pulls your eye away from her face as does the bright spot in the upper left of the image. I guess that's what everyone is calling "contrasty".
