When you are shootng with dark people in the shot overexpose by .5 of an fstop. In the one with the motorcycle the white on the bus looks grey because that is how your meter views it. A half stop increase in that shot would have made the bus white and added detail to the cyclists.
Another approach often used is switch to spot meter, zoom in, take a reading off any face, arm etc. and set your meter accordingly for all your people shots on that particular outing.

love them. makes me want to travel!! the only places ive been are mexico, thailand, and cambodia and the sleeping dog, non-'lettered' words, tuk-tuks, and of course, the garbage, brings me back so many memories... youve got great color, clarity (especially the water/homes shot), texture. and i love the movement of the bike shot.
tegan - do you think the bus was maybe in fact grey, and not white? the surroundings are pretty filthy - nothing thats in those streets would stay white for more than 2 minutes... im not arguing that your technique wouldnt make it appear whiter - but it just may not have been white to begin with.
Dark skin + 1/2 stop! Got it. Now, if I get time to go back reshoot those in a nice, leisurely fashion, I'll be all over that.
love, love, love photo number 1 and the vibrancy of colors. thanks for posting these
