For those that live in Ontario or will be visiting there in the next few months there is a really interesting photographic exhibit at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg. A Hamilton couple, Sue and Jim Waddington have tracked down 160 locations that inspired the Group of Seven Painters and photographed them. I have been to some of the locations that are mentioned and they are not that easy to get to. An example is there is reference to a location in La Cloche Channel in Killarney that is a bear to reach. Once, while siting on a rock, drinking in the beauty, I looked down to see paint splatters on the rock and fantasized about, “What if I were the first person to see this original A.J. Casson’s forgotten work of art.”
The article can be reached here in the Hamilton Spectator.
Oh and as a bit of a navel gaze I once took a physic course taught by Jim.
