You want a memory hog / system hog, try Norton My system is a quad core with 4 gigs of ram, even though win xp can only see 3 or so gigs I've had no issues with AVG in this area. Did the update for the third time and all is as it was. If It goes sideways again though I'll load Avast back on

Thanks...I think I've got a handle on the AVG. I don't know quite how the update happened but there you go I generally don't update anything if all is running as it should as updates can cause grief in my experience. If things change I will check out your recommendation

I have done this on all of my PCs and had no problems.

I found AVG keeps hiding its free version deeper and deeper in its website and steering people toward the pay version. I had the free version running on my mother's PC, then last time I returned home it was running the pay version :( and running like a dog.

Thia is interesting because I have always disliked AVG but the free/familiar part keeps me going back. I have also used Shaw secure (another freebie) from my service provider which is also free but i was told it sucks so went back to AVG.
Might have to try Microsoft...any other really good freebies out there?

Btw, I know someone who renewed his Norton AV and while it loaded it also managed to do something wrong which froze up his computer to the point where it forced him to have to reboot his entire computer...he lost all his addresses and some very important emails....Norton still wanted their money for the upgrade too!

Bye bye AVG! Turns out it doesn't get along with Zone Alarm anymore. Though I had it running, it slowly messed up again. Avast it is and yes I got the free part

I despise Norton and their bloated software - never again!
I've been using trend micro (40 bucks a year) for the past 2 years...and lo and behold I have to renew TOMORROW..

Might look into avast/avira before I renew then

    thx - Marko
