    Default Rant! City of Calgary

So I decide to go for a walk today to catch some of the awesome frost out in the city today. Saw some really cool (no pun intended) frost up by school on the way home so off I head. On the way, I see the cool bridge and decide to head down there.

I'm walking on the City of Calgary Bicycle Paths and heading downhill towards the river and I notice that a ton of water (looks like a main break or something form the amount of it) water has spilled an frozen on the pathway and it is really icy so I avoid it. I get back to what I think is a safe area and before I can say WTF, I am in mid air feet totally out from under me and I'm on the icy cement!
Now my back, arm are totally screaming bloody murder, I'm nicely bruised in a bunch of spots and it hurts to take a breath. Should be fun to try and do practical therapy tomorrow if indeed I do go to school. If this gets any worse I'm not going.

Stupid City of Calgary....they want everyone to shovel their walks yet seem to have issues with doing their own shovelling/snow/ice removal! City hall is doing a whole lot of shovelling of other things (BS) if you ask me.
I called 311 and complained but they didn't seem to interested in hurrying up even though I told them I hurt myself on their public icy pathway.
    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...OW...GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
    Thank you.

So sorry to hear, falling like that hurts a lot. Well I hope you heal fast, that can be a painful type of fall and if it does not start to feel better in a day or two you should have it x rayed and looked at by a Doctor those falls can seem minor but can cause some damage. And glad you didn't have any equipment with you that got damaged. All cities are like that, you complain and a week later they may deal with it. Just take it easy for a few days.

Can you buy shoes over there that well suited to this sort of thing?? I'm thinking about studded car tyres ... so maybe studded shoes/boots are available?

Hope those bruises don't get worse overnight Casil.

You can actually but slip overs for everyday shoes, the problem is f you go into and out of businesses or anywhere else you need to take then off and they are a pain, if you get the shoes with them then you need to carry a spare pair of shoes for the same reason. I bought a snow tip for my cane because I was slipping but it flips up so it is not an issue. And if the ice is hard and slippery enough sometimes nothing helps.

My mother in law broke her hip because of wearing Yak Trax, she entered a store and forgot to take them off so the coil traction springs became a no traction device on tile floor. Just a word of caution if you use them.

Thanks for the well wishes....I am not in school today....too sore.
MA I don't trust those yaktrax that Greg speaks of for the same reason. Usually I am really careful since I broke a crown last year and hit my head (separate incidents) but it was covered by a thin layer of snow so I missed it.
Usually that's when the most falls happen on ice.... after it has snowed a little to cover it up and you can't see it anymore.
Ah well, that's my one and only fall for this year and at least nothing is significantly damaged other than my pride ..and I got a few good shots...
I will be checking on Monday to see if anything was done about removing the ice by the city.
