I bought a domain name...Used Blue host to host by blog and then bought a template designed for Photographers. There is also a link to my zenfolio portfolio on my blog site. My intention is to build my business so I consider the expenses an investment.

If you are just doing it for fun and sharing information then the free blog work well. It does seem fruitless if you blog and do not have visitors. Of course you can always vent *L*

And that raises a question for me ... how DO people find your blog??

If I go to Blogger or Wordpress etc I see search functions that only return posts and comments. I can't seem to search by category.

Most blogs I know of is because someone has told me about it.

Telling people about it is one way. Posting comments in a forum like this is another...Providing you have a link to it. SEO via google works as well. If you are trying to build a business, the blog is a way for customers to learn a little more about you.

Yeh I know Google loves Blogs as part of SEO. It's one of the reason we were thinking of doing this at all.
Taking the time to actually market a blog isn't as appealing though

    Default i do, i have a blog!

i blog! i blog! if anyone wants to visit me, please do! oh! and bloggers live for comments!!! it means the world to us! hmmm. that message is not clear to the peeps who visit my blog...sigh....

even though, i live for the comments, my blog is meant to help me have a discipline. to give my photos more of a purpose than sitting on a hard drive. my blog is quite simple (basic) and not full of verbage...usually. (on occassion, i may have a rant or two... ) i love doing my blog... it is akin to the old school diary. i have used it many times to refer back to for this and that.

if you are interested, would love to have you visit me!

    Bingo.

If you build it Nobody will come unless you market the puppy. The marketing/word spreading IS the hardest part by far. That's why it's SO important to only blog about what you love...IF you don't love it (or at least like it a lot) it will always be a hassle to post stuff. Commenting on other people's blogs is one of the best and cheapest ways to get them to comment back....though I myself suck at this. Marko

I think adding your blog url to your signatures in any forums you visit would be a good way to market it also.
