Hey, don't discard your team so easily. Remember South Korea a few years back...
Listen, three eyes, don't you try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.
Actually considering soccer is no where near a major sport in this country we are proud of how well our team does against nations where soccer/football is one of their primary sports.
It depends how you define major sport. Our domestic league struggles because our top 100 players are in the various European leagues. If you took out the top 100 league players from the NRL what would be left? The last stats I heard, soccer was the 2nd largest participation sport. First is Netball. Soccer is a sleeping giant, it is the only football played in all states.
Also 3 of the top 10 Aussie sportsmen are Soccer players. Only 1 other team sport player(basketball player Bogut) was in the top 10, the rest are golfers, tennis players and motorsport drivers.
Aussies love to be the underdog, so bring on 2010.

It'll be a very interesting pool, that's for sure! I'll be watching it closely...

Well I guess by 'major' I mean 'widely accepted by the media and masses.' Soccer is well and truly over shadowed in this country by Rugby League, Aussie Rules Football, Tennis, Golf. To be stars ... our soccer players have to leave the country.
I don't think I know a single person (with the exception of Antz obviously) who could tell me who the top Aussie soccer players are at the moment.
In that regard you are correct, although that is changing.
I think you would be surprised how many people have heard of Harry Kewell.
My main point was to boost your enthusiasm Remember we lost to the eventual winner last time to a questionable refereeing decision.

I never said I wasn't enthusiastic. I was a representative player myself once upon a time, many, many moons ago
