Hi gang!
I shot a bunch of scenes of the northern lights a few months ago. They were taken around Yellowknife and Hay River, NWT. It was still getting down to -30 on a few of the nights so I used a homemade heater for the lens and camera body. It runs off a small 12 volt battery. It worked as the lens didn't fog up and the camera didn't freeze solid. Each 10 second scenes took over an hour to shoot and in some locations the camera was out for 3 or more hours. The camera was cold but not dead The reason for the post is my brother just finished editing the video and he uploaded the it here
I hope to shoot more in a couple of months when the midnight sun sets. There's still enough light all night that it's hard to see the northern lights properly.
I put this in the off topic section because I didn't see a section called "a crap load of still images stuck together to make a motion picture section".
Thanks for reading this!
Dan
