HELP - PDA died, need replacement ideas.

For the second time in less than 15 months, I've had a PalmPilot die on me. The first, an E2 lasted about two weeks more than the 90 day warranty period. The second, a T|X last eleven, give or take. They've both come down with a case of digitizer-itis from which, all research indicates there's no cure (at least that I haven't tried).

Therefore: I am D-U-N, done, with Palm. I've looked at HPs line of iPaqs, but they don't seem to be getting rave reviews. I definitely don't want a PDA/Telephone combination, and I've looked at Netbooks, which, while attactive from a price-point are just a little too big.

So: I need a PDA, I would prefer one running the Palm OS (So I don't have to spend oodles on new software), but I don't want one made by Palm.

Thoughts, input, suggestions appreciated.

I think your best option would be an iPod touch. I have an iPaq PDA and rarely use it anymore but when I need it it comes in very handy it just mine is getting a bit old and looking to update it, this is the second iPaq I have owned and they worked and the only reason I ever changed them was because I wanted a newer model.

I am seriously looking at the iPod touch seems to be the all in one that will take care of everything I need even has wireless internet. I am also looking netbooks, but going to do a lot of reading before I choose between the two, the iPod touch just seems to be much more portable for my needs.

I don't want an I phone because I refuse to go with rogers to get one. Not sure but outside a hack nothing but Palm the runs the Palm OS not that I recall offhand anyway. I think PDA's are not worth the money anymore. Too many other options to consider.

Wow, Palm... It's been awhile since I've been in sales selling those units.
I remember a Palm 'knock off' called VISOR by Handspring. Apparently it is done by the guy that invented Palm, started his own company. I am not sure if they get made anymore but have a look.

I personally had a IIIc model. Very nice, easy to use. Never had any problems with it. Sadly, the green power button stopped working, no way to turn it on in fact, I haven't turned it on in years.

Just to let you know I just bought a 32 GB, iPod Touch and I must say that it is better than any PDA I have ever owned. It is a great PDA replacement. I think that living in an area with a ton of wireless connections does make it far more usefull. I am using it to reply to this. It does take some getting used to the typing on it. I think smaller thumbs are more useful than my large ones.

The multi media aspect of it is also a great reason to own one. I keep some of my photos on it, even though the screen is not that large it does show photos extremely well.
