A painter takes their vision and makes it a reality. A photographer takes reality and makes it their vision.
I guess the idea is to really think about a shot before you take it. I guess it is the same as fasting, quitting smoking or anything else that involves discipline and strong will really.
I just got in and wow all I can say is that it is way harder than I anticipated. I already cheated b/c I took two as the first one was just so sucky I could not bring myself to keep it. But I am going to be gentle with myself and keep trying as hopefully this will bet a bit easier. If not I can always just bail which in all honesty I have no problem with.
I guess after seeing people not only participate, but complete Ironman Canada with artificial legs and visual impairment, this really is not as big a deal in the scheme of things
B...you are welcome to join in any way you see fit. If it goes against what you normally do then by all means do it. Force yourself to only take 5 shots or use manual or do something you don't normally do for the month. Whatever it is I guess it is about challenging yourself for the month.

Very cool Odyssey...I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Welcome to the challenge!

Another idea would be to take as many as you like per day but process only one shot per day for the whole month....that's it, that's all.

Perhaps an idea for those who have to use their cameras for projects or work is to put a lens on a backup camera and use that as their one photo per day? it's not strictly sticking to the idea but it's a compromise.
That works also...I think it might be even better to make this a "do whatever challenges you and your discipline/willpower in one particular way photographically speaking", go for it and feel free to post in the http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f3/...html#post81295 Thread.
It will be interesting to see how those who choose to participate (please state your personal challenge in the thread so we know what you have chosen to do for the month) document their results and findings as they start the journey. Fell free to vent, rant, rave, ask, advise etc, there also as we can support each other as we go along.

Okay so after re-reading the rules, I can take more than one shot as long as it is using the one lens. The concept is to get intimate with one single lens rather than only taking one shot. So, that being said I am going to switch to my 10-17mm fish eye as that is the lens I am least familiar and experienced with. I will take at least one shot every day for the month of September that lens and post one shot. Also this way I can do all the assignments here and there as well.
Phew....... I feel better. The only taking one shot part was so damn hard that I am certain I would not last the month.
So now off to find my first fish eye shot!

I only have one lens, so that wouldn't be much of an issue for me. My main problem is that the photography during lunch keeps me sane. But I'm willing to cheer everyone on, and I'll bet I learn a thing or three in the process.
This is something I couldn't do. Passing up an opportunity because you already took your shot would be painful. I could see saying I have to take at least one shot with this lens each day. Since you own more than one lens challenge yourself to pick a subject and take a shot of it with each of your lenses and do this everyday.
