Joe is awesome. What can I say? I am a big fan and particularily if you shoot with Nikon, you will get a lot out of his lectures. I booked tickets already but may have to work on the Saturday, in which case I will just leave a bit early.

(Lol, this is almost as exciting as seeing the Avett Brothers and Michael Franti at Folkfest)

Wow....$200....as much as I'd love to learn from the master....that's a bit steep for me at this time.

Oh, yes now I see it's both days not one or the other. Would be cool, but financially not good timing for me. I can't wait to hear your post-event assessment!

A P&S photo of the shoot with "Captain Jack."

While Marko is in the Rockies learning landscapes, I am at Mount Royal University, Calgary learning portraits, specifically with small flash with Joe McNally. The first day saw him go through several scenarios with a variety of models, the most entertaining being a Captain Jack Sparrow impersonator. He showed various arrangements using from one SB900 to half a dozen or more. One fun scenario saw him use two "starlets" surrounded by a half dozen paparrazi. He had a main light on the girls and the photographers posing as paparaai had a preset speed light put on their cameras (which were off) the audience had two gelled speed lights on stands and half a dozen random speedlights borrowed from the audience. The whole thing came together rather amazingly well. All the flashes were controlled remotely using Nikon's own system.

Another little tool that he uses I found quite cool is the Justin clamp:
