I know some photos appeal to people for different reasons but originally, when I conceived the idea, it was to highlight photos that someone had reached a level where ones first reaction was 'wow.'

The idea is that only the best of the best for each month make it in here and not include photos that are 'just' very good. They should be great! I just feel it makes it less special to be nominated otherwise.
Good and very good photos get their verbal rewards within their own threads.

That way people are pushed to higher limits to achieve a nomination.

If that means only 5 photos make it .... then fine. If 20 or more make it and qualify as great ... then even better.
I post photos that make me say "WOW" when I nominate them...and I just want add that every one is different and has personal taste to what makes an image special to them......my "wow" might be a "meh" to some others....and visa versa....not wrong not right...just is a matter of what one sees is all.
I belong to a gallery that images I vote "no" on, often get accepted and images I submit and think are great and deserving of a "yes" are often rejected.
    C'est la vie.

That's always going to happen in photography. I'm the same ... I can so sure which photo is best in every way I can think of and it can not be chosen at all or beaten by a photo I think is well down on the same criteria.

I just think if we only nominate the best of the best (even if it's the best of the best of what we personally think) then that would be better.
Just my thoughts though ... I'm sure it will flow on as usual and that's fine.

Most photos nominated are at least good photos. I just think some are not technically great. Photos with distractions or lack of sharpness where needed etc should not be included in my opinion.

It's a grey area of course. Always is when humans are involved and have to use their opinions rather than a tape measure

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!
