"You have to milk the cow quite a lot, and get plenty of milk to get a little cheese." Henri Cartier-Bresson from The Decisive Moment.
I post photos that make me say "WOW" when I nominate them...and I just want add that every one is different and has personal taste to what makes an image special to them......my "wow" might be a "meh" to some others....and visa versa....not wrong not right...just is a matter of what one sees is all.
I belong to a gallery that images I vote "no" on, often get accepted and images I submit and think are great and deserving of a "yes" are often rejected.
C'est la vie.

That's always going to happen in photography. I'm the same ... I can so sure which photo is best in every way I can think of and it can not be chosen at all or beaten by a photo I think is well down on the same criteria.
I just think if we only nominate the best of the best (even if it's the best of the best of what we personally think) then that would be better.
Just my thoughts though ... I'm sure it will flow on as usual and that's fine.
Most photos nominated are at least good photos. I just think some are not technically great. Photos with distractions or lack of sharpness where needed etc should not be included in my opinion.
It's a grey area of course. Always is when humans are involved and have to use their opinions rather than a tape measure

the focus, colour, composition are perfect. If it were mine it would already be on the wall.

A painter takes their vision and makes it a reality. A photographer takes reality and makes it their vision.
This picture from Wicked Dark from the thread http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f11/walk-8416.html shows wonderful colours and reflection

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!
