I think that you're overthinking it Kat. C said that it like shooting in black in white but in colour. a B&W photo is just variations of gray (mostly) so this assignment is taking a shot that is just variations of one colour. the elements are indicated via shades and gradients only.

I hope I got that right

Both are wonderful shots, Bambi and Donna!

Kat, I think it means monochromatic. One hue and its tints, tones and shades- Where if you liken it to mixing paints, white lightens it, black darkens it. But found that way- no post processing.

    Thanks for the comments!

    Nice example Bambi!
Good explanations of the theme , Bambi and JAS!

My understanding is that Ton sur Ton ... is just French for ... Tone on Tone .

Here is one where all of the objects are solid colours of red , including the background object ... the whites and blacks in the image are only from the highlights and shadows of the lighting ..... except for a couple specks of lint

First. A nod to those who have come before... nice images. I'm just getting started and I'm experimenting a bit... not my usual type of shot in many ways but I kinda like it...

Not sure if this counts or not but I saw this stonework wall today and had to shoot it for the funky pattern...then I thought, hey, this is ton sur ton too I think.
