Okay, I think i get it!
This is a discussion on Ton sur Ton - December 2010 within the Level 2 photography assignments forums, part of the Photo assignments category; Okay, I think i get it!...
Thanks for the comments!
Nice example Bambi!
Good explanations of the theme , Bambi and JAS!
My understanding is that Ton sur Ton ... is just French for ... Tone on Tone .
Here is one where all of the objects are solid colours of red , including the background object ... the whites and blacks in the image are only from the highlights and shadows of the lighting ..... except for a couple specks of lint![]()
In this one there is something black in the colour sceme besides the shadows ... the dogs nose , of course
" And you interrupted my nap , for What??...."
First. A nod to those who have come before... nice images. I'm just getting started and I'm experimenting a bit... not my usual type of shot in many ways but I kinda like it...

a contrived shot. i glued the leaf on the branch.![]()
Nice images bambi, Iggy, ed and Donna - who is on fire in this thread with 3 wonderful submissions. Donna also knows her French, Tone on Tone is indeed the translation of Ton sur Ton.

Nice one Iggy! ... That's the neat thing about these challenges ... We shoot things that are not our usual subjucts or style .... Or maybe the same type of jubject , but we learn to compose things in different ways for different effects ..... But , we walk away from every challenge with our minds expanded and we look at things a bit differently , we now see more in things , than we did before ..... and thats a good thing.![]()
Thanks!
Absolutely, I completely agree which is why I enjoy these challenges. I didn't explain it well, however, as this particular challenge was not the catalyst for my recent changes. Maybe I'll start a new thread to share my experience...hmmm.... just not today... still a bit more research to do I think.
Shot at the river bank. Ton sur ton, je ne sais pas? Mike
