    Talking Wow

    This place is massive!
As ever on the web I stumbled across the forum looking for something else.
Had a look around and here I am.

I have briefly scoped messages here and there. Tone and tenor are really encouraging. Over time so many web places fall into all those predictable foibles that human nature can display.
I will most likely lurk till I know where I want to go.
I know I am overjoyed to find here because I am seriously tired of Flickr. I have taken to calling it the WalMart of photography. I have come to despise the way it influences my shooting habits.

My big move at the moment is back into film.
I spent the past month acquiring a bunch of old pieces on ebay. I'm terribly excited about it all. I believe the combination of FED-style rangefinders and some of the cool cheapie B&W film around will give me some of what I am after today.
When I came back to photography a few years back I was not overly impressed with digital. It's better now but I still dislike the compression of highs and lows. We'll see whether scanning negs makes any diff or whether I am going to have to go there too and set up an enlarger etc.

I will go on . . . . Hi to all. Good to be here.

    Edit:
Just put up a few shots on a blog. These are some sort of indication of what I have been doing lately. I am literally all over the place, though. About the only subject matter I am not crazy on is nature.

There's a kind of power thing about the camera. I mean everyone knows you've got some edge. You're carrying some magic which does something to them. It fixes them in a way. - Diane Arbus
