Welcome Ophelia, both to the forum and also to world of photography.

This is a great place to learn and share, so ask any questions you may have about photography or editing. We have all been newbies and are keen to help. There is no such thing as a dumb question.

We would also love to see some pics. I am sure living in one of the most scenic places on earth, and with a couple of kids there is no shortage of photographic opportunities.

There are a few ways of doing this Ophelia.

The following is one of the easiest. It is done in Photoshop CC2014. If you are using Photoshop Elements it may be slightly different (but will be similar).

From the main menu select "file" "save for web"

    Name: save1.jpg
Views: 285
Size: 120.1 KB

Ensure JPEG is selected and then change the size so that the longest side (H=height, W = width) is no longer than 1000 pixels

    Name: save2.jpg
Views: 315
Size: 256.9 KB

You will then be prompted for the file name and location in the normal manner. Just ensure the file format is "images only"

The alternative that some of us use on the forum is to upload the files to Flickr and then link from Flickr. Instructions here How to get the static Flickr URL - Page 2

Hello Ophelai and welcome. Yes you can resize in PS. Under the image menu / image size. I usually set for a max width of 1000 pixels and let the height fall where it will for landscape. Portrait shots I go for a max height 0f 900 pixels and let the width fall where it will. Just make sure in the resize menu you have your "constrain proportions" box checked. When I save the resized image, I save it to the desktop so I know right where it is. When closing out of Photoshop you will be asked if you want to save changes to the original file, say no to this so as not to resize the original file. This is the quick and dirty method I use due to laziness but it works just fine.

ETA: Runmonty has given you another option so you should be posting real soon
