another idea I had was to show one of those camera pens with the caption- 'may cause concern' or some such thing and then an image of a dSLR and the caption 'should not cause concern'.

A painter takes their vision and makes it a reality. A photographer takes reality and makes it their vision.
I think we need to get the event back to what was the original idea and that was to protect our constitutional rights. The story that sparked this idea was about photographing a police officer on duty and getting arrested for taking photos of the on Duty officer and not that he was mistaken for a terrorist. Not sure how we are not Terrorist has come into this although it can be part of it but we should avoid narrowing it to just that issue, we have rights under the constitution and we need to protect those rights and it is more than just the Terrorist angle.

The original I dea I had when I thought of this whole thing was being confronted by a guy who said I had to have a permit to take photos of a building while standing on a public street. I have since had hassle by security that happen to me again...while standing on a public sidewalk which is completely legal.
In my letter which I am going to post on the site I wrote:
"What we are hoping to accomplish is a peaceful mass photo get together from Coast to Coast City to City Town to Town across Canada to bring attention and awareness to the fact that photography is not a crime and photographers are not criminals. We are merely people with a pastime, a hobby or a job and photography is the means in which we express ourselves. We are guaranteed that right to do so in Canada because it is clearly outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Section 2.b) of the Charter states we as both Canadians and photographers are allowed:
“Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;”
IMO....I am not interested in making an analogy that we are terrorists...that is just too confrontational and gives the event a negative slant. I am not interested in doing this in a confrontational manner with any kind of symbolism/logos that could initiate this in any kind of negative violent or conflictive manner which could lead to further harassment....I have absolutely no interest in any of that...I would like this to be a celebration of our hobby/craft/work more so than a confrontational event.
I would merely like to make it be known by strength in numbers that we are people who have a way of expressing our art. It is not a crime or against any law to do so as long as we are in public and not trespassing or breaking any laws while photographing, we have a right to exercise our craft without hassle or harrasement.
I really think that we should just get on with the business now of setting up the site, developing a logo or to be quite honest it will not get done. I think we need to have a few people on a committee right now to set this thing up and get it off the ground and the sooner that gets done the better..

I would also like to add that in all honesty, my interest is starting to wain a bit with the time that goes by without anything firm in place yet....sorry but I am telling it like it is.

I am done, we just lost yet another entire weekend and I just do not know what to say once again. All the work that needs to go into this it had to move much faster than it has. I made suggestions to how to move forward with the event, I suggested on what needed to be done, in what order I felt and only felt how we could do it and no response or feedback in either a positive or negative. I also made other suggestions such as a live chat and pick a committee that would make all the decisions to move this forward as quickly as we could and I have no idea on what others thought. I have tried my best to push this forward and nothing, it is just not going to work this way for me anyway.As it moved forward it was going to get a lot more involved and people to move even quicker that I expected it to by now.

Really? That's it? You're going to give up because it's not moving fast enough? I thought the interested group was giving the weekend for others to chime in and if not we were going to move ahead without them. I'm willing to help out and advertise this thing around here because I too am getting tired of people treating photographer's badly, however, I'm not going to give up the rest of my life to do it.
As I understand it we have:
1) a domain name picked and registered;
2) a Flickr group set up;
3) someone who's willing to work on a logo - right, Kat?
4) the date picked
What we have left to do is to:
1) set up the website;
2) spread the message;
3) head out and take pictures on the appointed day
Because this all didn't happen in the first couple of weeks we're giving up?
I'm still interested.
Kat, do you think it reasonable that the logo could be done this week?
Marko, are you up for hosting the website? It seems to be up your alley since you have more than one on the go right now anyway.
Once we have a website with a logo and a message we can start spreading the word. Or we can start spreading the word today. I just need confirmation that at least one other person will go in on this with me. While I still think it's worth doing, I don't want to do it for myself.
It's hard to get everyone all together as we all have different schedules - I don't get that much time on the weekends (unless I get special permission) but I'm but I'm still definitely interested.
Can we set aside a time for us all to be online and chat this through?
I can definitely host the site.
I apologize if my lack of posting these last few days has contributed to this (sudden to me) bad taste in people's mouths.

Sorry! Crazy weekend here! I've showed my husband this thread..he's been through it several times and is more than willing to give the logo a shot! "I'll work on something today." is what I just got. He also said he'll do a couple up.
