Default In out from the cold

Ziplock now makes super big bags. have one with you when you go out into the cold. When you are ready to come in remove your memory cards and put everything in the ziplock. Let it warm up inside the bag, this prevents condensation on your equipment which is a real killer with these electronic cameras and their sensors. It's also very hard to clean the inner lens surfaces.

Just a tip I picked up from another photographer.

so you put the camera in the bag? wouldn't the bag result in more condensation? I need to think on the science of this one.

The bag only contains so much moisture, its will condense on the camera. While a room has a large volume of moisture that is replenished. Also the cold air is dryer than warm air.

In the winter I pack each and every part in a ziplock bag individually camera bodies, lenses, batteries, etc. And before I go in the house I seal all of them properly drawing out all the air with a straw and then allow time for them to get to room temperature before I open them in the house to avoid condensation. A very good habit to get into when you are going from the cold to the warmth. And I also use a lot of packs of silica packs in all the bags, in my camera cases and just have them all over also helps control the moisture. Condensation can ruin the electronics on your camera and lenses. Better safe than sorry, a little precaution can protect and give your camera equipment a much longer life cycle and a good chance of fewer repairs or just ruining them.

Been doing this for a couple of years. Works like a charm. I am not quite to the standard of AL but in even just throwing it into the ziplock before heading into the house works quite well I've found.
