I just wanted to bring this to people's attention.
As photographers and artists in the digital age we usually WANT to put our work online and share our images. This is in stark contrast to the mid-late nineties where most photographers freaked out at the thought of having their works online where people could download them.
Creative commons is a licence that artists/photographers can add to their images. This licence allows for the sharing of your work and there are several kinds. If you don't add this licence then the work inherently cannot be shared and your image posses the "All rights reserved license". This means that nobody is technically allowed to even share your image. Of course if they do share - sell - you can defend your copyright but that costs fees.
The most commonly used creative commons license is the Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works license
This allows people to share your work but not modify it or sell it and they must credit you. If we WANT more people to see our work and we allow others to share it, then like a virus it will spead far more rapidly. Attached is an icon of the licence described above and this link gives the full description of that license. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/
