I just put a border around mine to make mine the right size.

That iggy is one of life's great mysteries...I think so the dog can have the remaining 4!

Should we make another thread with our images when we decideafter the poll? I will post one but I will also give my "winner" (I use that term very loosely...lol) the option of going onto my flickr site and picking something for themselves if they like. I did that with a silent auction donation recently.

I don't see that as necessary. If I'm picking for my "mate" I'd rather not advertise it here, spoil the surprise and potentially stimulate judgement or contraversy, hehe. And if I decide to offer a browsing of my Flickr galleries for something they like in particular, instead of me choosing for them, that could just be done quietly between them and I through PM and/or email.

But I do see a related thread being handy just for general discussion and questions- for those of us that might want to ask what others are doing for printing, packaging, mailing options, good ways to sign the print, etc. Might be a new thread cuz this one's getting long, the other's a poll- maybe the signup thread will become that.

I think we've already established some concensus we don't need to complicate it. Guidelines of sender's best of 2009 image or other by private agreement, and 8x10/A4 unless otherwise agreed to between parties, preferably signed (here's where subtlety will come into play- watch, someone will put a big watermark or sig across the center of their image- lol!). Draw names and we're off to the races!

Yes I want to know this too- and I'm hoping whoever it is has a location in the south part of calgary because when I feel best about the city of calgary (or any major city) is when i see it in my rear view mirror

I betcha those of you who went to that photo expo recently must've learned about some good printers?

You might try Vistek they publish their printer profiles, but believe it or not if you have a Costco membership they use the same printers and I think you can download their printer profiles as well.

I just called The Camera Store and they suggested Technicare or ABL Imaging
    Both have websites.

Do we get to choose the photo we want to give? I think it would be cool to see a thread of submitted photos that will be drawn for.

Also, here is the cheapskate way to get custom framing. Go to somewhere that sells framed art cheap such as Winners and look for a piece that is the size you would like with a frame you like.

Take the art out. Take your frame and photo to a custom framing shop and have them custom cut a mat for you. Voila! custom framing on a budget.

WTIW i took the same four images, two colour, two B&W (one sepia toned) and got them printed 5x7 here in Calgary at Wally World, Blacks and London Drugs.

There wasn't a lot of difference in the colour images but Wally World's paper wasn't as nice. When it came to B&W however Wally World completely destroyed it! Blacks and London Drugs were almost equal but i found out after talking to the tech at Blacks that if you tell them a head of time that it's B&W they can print on special B&W high quality paper for no extra charge.

I just got an early xmas present from a friend, $100 at Vistek... thank i might try something on canvas (16x20?).

Or even better if you do a lot of framing, get a matt board cutter and you can do it yourself for even less. It does take some practice, but matt board is so cheap, you can afford to make a few mistakes.
