I saw the work of a photographer this summer on either BoingBoing, Neatorama or NYT.com. I saved the link using a url-shortening site(.tk) and the link is now dead :( I've done extensive searches but have not been able to find the site again.
The photographs were startlingly about color. They were portraits, I think they were squarish, and I think the photographer was a Japanese male. The images were of Asian men (possibly Japanese) dressed in elaborate makeup and wigs, almost like geishas. In one photo the background is black, the hair, skin, everything is pitch black except for bright yellow lipstick on the model. In others, everything in the portrait is white. Selective color plays a huge role in these photos and the expressive use of color is very striking. His work is very much Art photography and he was featured as such.
I know it's probably not a lot to go on, and I can't find it myself. But if anyone has any idea who this photographer is, I'd be thrilled and grateful to know.
Thank you!!!
