I bought a digital slide duplicator from the U.S. because you can't find one anywhere in Canada. The ones on stands with a flash that comes from under the slide which I have used, were expensive and I don't think they are any longer available.
This one reminds one of an extender tube with a close-up diopter and a slide holder. It was cheap in that it came with step up attachments which can be used with filters as well. You put your digital camera with this addition on a tripod and face it toward the bright outside. Insert a slide in each side of the slide holder and start shooting. If you have live view or a superzoom you might want to shoot manually based on what you see in the viewfinder. It takes a little bit of getting use to, particularly framing the slide and getting everything straight.
However, it is certainly faster that scanning a slide on a flatbed scanner. Set up the camera and duplicator on a tripod facing outside light, frame and shoot. Quality is as good as any slide duplicator and equal to scanners I have seen.
I have used more complex slide duplicators at 5 times the cost and this one is good for anyone who has a lot of slides to transfer to digital and does not want to spend a lot of money.
