Thanks A.L. as always for posting images that I'd likely never see otherwise.

These shots are very dark in mood. I have to wonder if this is what the photographer wanted to show, or if this (mood) is what he actually saw the majority of the time.

From what I gather from reading previous articles on life inside North Korea, it seems it is what you see when you visit. I know I saw another photographers work from North Korea a while back and looked as forlorn as those ones, just cannot recall where I saw them or who the photographer was now.

I like this second set MUCH better than the first A.L.
and I really think it's the title "The Land of No Smiles"

That's a hard phrase to apply to an entire country and I must say it turned me off immediately because it doesn't seem honest, it seems skewed. I've not been to N. Korea but I have been to extremely poor harsh countries...and people smile, they just do. It's human to smile even in the face of harsh living environments.

This second set does show people smiling as well as show poverty and tough living conditions. It seems 1,000 times more honest than the last set.
Some excellent composition in this 2nd set as well.
