    Default Telephoto Zoom Lens Suggestions

    I'm looking for a telephoto zoom lens. I currently have;

    8mm Bower fisheye
    10-22 Canon
    18-55 Canon kit lens
    40 Canon Pancake. (Just bough this recently - Plan is to use it with my old XSi for Street Photography)
    50 1.4 Canon

    I do have a Canon 55-250 however this lens is so soft I've given up on it. It's way softer than the canon 18-55 so you can see how bad it is. I've currently lent it (almost given it) to a friend.

    As you can see I currently have nothing over a 55mm. I have rented the Canon 70-300 and 100-400 L lenses and love these, especially the 70-300 and the 100-400 pump style is an old design. but I don't like the price. Does anybody have suggestions of a lens that you have that is decent but won't kill the pocketbook like the Canon L lenses will.

    As a good walking around lens I'm seriously considering buying the Canon 24-105 L Lens. I've seen it on Amazon for just under $800. I've rented this several times, including last Saturday where it was the only lens I took to the World Pride event. However this only gets me to 105mm.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    How much zoom do you want and how much money do you want to drop?

    I love my Tamron 70-200 2.8. I think a 70-200 2.8 should be in every gear bag!!!

    I have been eyeing the Tamron 100-600 ($1000)

    I find the 24-105 a very versatile lens. but Canon also makes 4 versions of the 70-200, two at f4 with and without stabilization and two at f2.8, with and without stabilization. These are all excellent L lenses and I think the f4 versions are older lenses and reasonably priced. The f4 non-IS version is $665 at the Camera Store. Happy shopping.
