    Default AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!! Battery died!!!

I get up early this morning because of forecast of dense fog.

I hurry out, grab a hand full of images and battery dies!!!!

And I have a dual camera battery system. I can take 500+ images on one charge. I just hope the fog doesn't burn off before I can get my batteries charged!!!

Not exactly sure which sure which system you use but I am thinking it is Nikon. I have the battery grip for my D300 which can use double "A's" plus you get that square feel and the controls for the vertical alignment. Plus you have that extra rack of battery power. so if you have not thought of it yet. Great gadget! Ha! Ha!

I have Canon and I added the grip which carries another battery (or AA batteries). I am just complaining about myself for going out without checking the charge of the batteries.

New fully charged battery EVERY time I go out. Doesn't matter if I was out yesterday and only took a couple. A routine I go through before I go out the door is I double check settings and put them all back to my defaults for battery, shutter speed, ISO, storage quality, metering mode, etc. I do a similar routine when I go out on the motorcycle. Get into the habit and you'll save yourself most of the problems you can run into. (lesson learned the hard way many times)

    Thanks for sharing that AT!
    - it also happened to me in San Francisco 8-9 years ago....I was SUPER- p.o. at myself. That was the last time it happened.

I agree from that experience with Andrew's technique.
And an extra battery is a must. I take very few items with me on personal shoots (I don't take a camera bag - just lenses on the hip), and that extra battery always goes in the right front pocket - unless it's super cold out.
On super-cold days the extra battery goes in the inside pocket of my jacket (so that the battery stays warm - lasts longer). This too is a good preventative.

Yes I have done it always two batteries when one fails quick swap but then forget to charge so next time one fails swap and find spare also flat. Now have three batteries but still the same problem it's that habit of charging when you return. Same with memory cards grabbed camera a few times only to realise memory card still in PC. Nikon always transfer direct from camera but Pentax works better swapping card.

There are times when a grip and an extra large pack of AA's can be your best friends.

A lesson for all of us to remember. Spare batteries that are charged. I almost ran into the same problem as you. The night recently I went out to test taking the night dark pictures, I forgot to take my spare battery. I forgot it at home getting charged. I was just lucky that there was enough charge on the battery in the camera to last the couple of hours in the cold.
