I was playing around with my on camera flash. When I noticed these CD cases a light went off... They are cheap and seem to be in every house with a stereo or computer. They balance nicely on my Canon on a tripod or can be taped on.

Hehe. It has to be said though, it's really not expensive to get a set of flash gels - some places give out free sampler packs - and they're a lot smaller, lighter and easier to attach than CD cases...
True enough. But if you don't have any this will do in a pinch.
Clever idea! And unlucky to catch fire too
I have a friend who is a lighting tech and can get all kinds of different gels. I asked him to email me the old ones when they set up for a new show. They are really cheap though and if you take care of them they can last a long time. I was not really interested in gels until yesterday, so I looked around, they are pretty cheap, but I can get a few hundred of them for free.
