Has a new book out with a price tag of $2000. Seems like his prints are selling for high $$$$$. Is this guy worth it or is there just alot of hype around him? Would you collect this guy?

Do you watch reality based TV at all? Well there's this guy: Bio « Les Stroud and then there's this guy: Bear Grylls | International Speaker | Best selling Author | Everest Mountaineer and one of them is not what they seem. Bear Grylls (with his british accent), aka faker, is all flash with very little show. While Les Stroud (without the accent) is the real deal. Peter Lik (with his ozzie accent) is like the hollywood version of Bear, aka a fake. Peter has his nemesis too though, check this guy out Rodney Lough, he is the real deal - he's like the Les Stroud of fine art photography. I've been to both their galleries and seen both their work, Lough is vasty superior, but his marketing is not as good Lik. So is a $2k book hype? yep, it is. run dorothy, run!

I've been to 2 peter Lik Galleries this year and i was blown away. The quality of the work when i was there, imo, was of the highest caliber. I looked at images from feet away as well as inches away. I was SO impressed that i spent 50 bucks on a catalog of his work. I must say though the gallery lighting WAS incredible and did indeed help to show off the work. The pricing is there to match though. Some of his prints are into 6 figures, that's right 6.
If I had that kind of extra cash i WOULD collect this guy and would buy the 2000. book. i actually took a look at it...AWESOME.
Just like a rock star can make 100K a night, if the work is of high enough quality (and the marketing is there) a photographer can charge equally insane prices and many people will be happy to pay.

i JUST took a look at Rodney Lough's site for the first time. More work of the highest quality it seems. Looking forward to exploring it fully. Thanks for mentioning it!

Actually kind of reminds me of the Kinkade craze, how much are those paintings worth today?
