I have been asked to photograph an artists large, deeply textured oil paintings. The artist would like to show the texture since it is a major feature of this expensive art work. If I use the standard technique (two lights at 45 degrees polarized and with a polarizer on the camera), the colours are great but the texture is totally invisible. The best effect so far is with one light shinning along the painting but the obvious problem is that the light gradient across the painting is huge. This necessitates a lot of photoshop work.
Im a little stumped, any ideas please.
