    Default what next?

ok, so i have my new nikon d80 and the AF-S nikkor 18-200mm vr lens. now i want to look into my next lens.

an idea of what i like to shoot... mainly people, animals, nature, wildlife, close-ups. not too many landscapes or buildings. im getting more into engagement/wedding/family photography.

my budget is limited right now, but i need something more - so im looking for something that will do minor damage to the credit card. but by this spring i should be able to afford another lens, one thats bigger 'n better...

    any suggestions?

Travis's suggestion is a good one. Your lens is very versatile but slowish. When the light is really low - a fast F1.8 lens is awesome!

You might also consider a macro lens if you really like close up work - this one - Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro Lens for Nikon

gets good reviews and is about 500. new.

    hope that helps

Ehhh... I'd recommend the 1.4 vice the 1.8. Still not terribly expensive, and it does have a metal mount!

I would have normally suggested the 1.4 but her budget is tight and this lens costs more than twice the amount of the 1.8.

EDIT: BTW Kiley the baby portraiture I have posted in the September assignments was taken with the 5omm 1.8. The aperture was set to 1.8 and is still quite sharp. The don`t call this lens ``plastic fantastic`` for nothing.

I agree on the 50mm and the 1.4
    You will be very impressed.

It gathers light like you would not believe and it is VERY sharp.

    GET THE 1.4 !!!!!!
