If you're shooting with multiple Nikon DSLR's, then it makes sense to rename the files in at least one of the bodies. It's what I did back when I never left the house without the D90 and D300s. When I broke the 90 I shot for a good while with the 300 without worrying about the roll-over. The 90 probably rolled over four or five time before it “rolled- over” and fell to the ground. My folder system on the hard drive is so chaotic and Lightroom only catalogs pieces I've named so it has never been an issue for me.
On the other hand, beware of another issue I've encountered with my D800. It's a little more serious in nature and one you might want to be prepared for. The moment my finger left the shutter button at 50k, the dam'n thing turned into this.
I'm not saying that it's a reported issue or that others have had the same problem, but to be on the safe side I think I might bring a roll of 35mm with you when you start to get close to 50k. If it does happen to you, there's a bright side. No more file naming issues.![]()
